Flatfoot Dancing - Live Appalachian Music  -  Cape Charles
(1/13/2017 - 12/31/2017)
Calendar Image

Flatfoot Dancing Every 2nd Friday at the Lemon Tree Gallery and Studio. Bring the whole family for a romping good time.

Not sure what Flatfoot Dancing is? Well, Bill McGlothlin is here to show you how. Using the toes, heel, and ball of the foot to strike and slide across the floor, flat-footing is a percussive dance style that articulates the rhythms of mountain fiddle and banjo music. Come make old-time music with your feet while you move to the rhythm of live Appalachian music played by skilled performers and Eastern Shore fixtures: Allen Philpot, Jeff Madson, Sheila Sheppard, Scott Wade, Dan Crockett and Jeff Gray.

"The music just goes in your ear, down through your soul, and comes out through your feet.’’

Free Admission. Everyone Welcome.

Archaeologists from the Jamestown Rediscovery project at Historic Jamestowne are uncovering James Fort’s oldest artifacts, and creating a revised picture of life in the first permanent English settlement in America! This limited security exhibition is perfect for schools, libraries, and art centers. The exhibition’s 12 panels paint a vivid picture of the struggles of the early colonists, while illustrating critical processes of historical archaeology.  Are you looking for ways to generate enthusiasm for SOL-related Virginia history, science, and math? Tour - Guided Walking Tour of Historic Eastville  -  Eastville
(6/25/2017)

Presented by the Northampton Historic Preservation Society
Town historian and NHPS board member, David Scott, has added new material to his informative presentation. In addition, new research pertaining to the "forgotten" history of the Court Green jails during the 1800's and 1900's, is featured in a presentation by NHPS president Joyce Kappeler.

The walking tour starts at the Eastville Court Green, one of the oldest in Virginia, and continues with commercial and residential architecture within the historic district which showcases a significant collection of high-style and vernacular buildings. Picture Eastville during the Civil War and in the early 1900's when it was a bustling city in the midst of an economic, agricultural, and transportation boom and Courthouse Road was a major thoroughfare in the county. In all, the walk is less than one mile in length.

Register now to hold your spot as space is limited.  Attendees are asked to register early using any credit card at www.northamptonhistoricpreservationsociety.com. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The meeting site and directions are on the NHPS website given above. For more information, email nhps100@gmail.com

Join us at our visitor center for an informative talk and visual tour of Butterflies and Moths found on the Eastern Shore presented by Dr. Anthony Picarrdi.  The purpose of this photo tour is to show the beauty of these amazing insects and to show some details of their life cycle, ecology and host plants. The main families of butterflies found on the Shore are presented along with an assortment of skippers and moths. Dr. Piccardi uses photos and his extensive collection of butterflies and moths to illustrate his talk. After the talk, guests are welcome to take a walk on the refuge's butterfly trail to see the butterflies for themselves.
