Paintings, Drawings and Photography
Always at a loss for an original idea, John wanted to surround himself with a muse that would look kindly over his shoulder and whisper gentle encouragement in his ears. The land, sea, and skyscapes of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands seem to be that place. Whether on a leisurely walk at the refuge or on a trip to the compost bin at the end of the yard, it's a nice place to be: always working at what never feels like work.

Original oils of landscapes, still lifes, flowers
When Carole moved to the Eastern Shore from her native Holland in 2000, she started painting with Adamo. Under his guidance, she lifted her work to a new technical and artistic level. With a detailed handwriting and using the traditional "glazing" technique, her original oil paintings of flowers, landscapes and still life appear realistic and vibrant. Visitors are welcome at her studio/gallery, but please call for an appointment first.

Preserving the beauty and history of special trees
A tree is a living thing. Living things have histories, they grow, react to events and, finally, they die.
Robert Lentz is an artist whose talent is to look deep into the stresses and natural features of these dead and downed trees and to bring forth the astonishing colors and textures that are forged out of that living experience.
His unique natural style of woodturning and sculpture captures the inner beauty of these special trees.

Vast selection of products in various price points
Clay Werks offers complementary design services to assist clients in creating their tile layout and guide them through Clay Werks wide selection of tile, wood or stone. Once the client has visited our showroom and selected materials, an appointment for a free estimate can be scheduled. A clearly written proposal is provided specifying materials to be used along with the design. To help clients visualize how their choices will look in their home, we provide samples to borrow and “live with.” Because so many of our clients live out of the area, samples can be shipped and proposals sent via email. New to our offerings are Custom Closets and tile/grout vapor steam cleaning.
Clay Werks Ltd. strives to bring the client the highest quality service possible and the finest products the industry has to offer. “We will always be in the forefront of selection and installation, that’s just who we are” notes Dona. Whether it is ceramic, porcelain or glass tile for walls, counters or floors, or wood flooring or custom closets, Clay Werks Ltd. has the skill and experience to make your space special and unique for you. We guarantee it!”
Our lead installer, Jeff Madson, originally from Bozeman, Montana has worked with tile and stone for over 35 years. His skill level has “raised the bar” locally and continually keeps abreast of new technology in the trade. Almost anyone can "lay tile" but only an experienced craftsman can insure that the job is done correctly and will last (and look good!) for a lifetime.
The owner, Dona Danziger, is on the board of the newly formed Builders Association of Virginia's Eastern Shore (www.baves.org).

Willie C. Crockett
Willie Crockett speaks with the strong dialect unique to Tangier Island where he was born and he paints with the strength of a life-long, intimate knowledge of the Chesapeake Bay.
His paintings are recognized as among the most honest portrayals of the Chesapeake’s drama and beauty. Best known for his wildlife art, Willie transmits to his paintings an everfresh view of the Eastern Shore landscape, the wildfowl and the marsh.
An occasional, easy transition into colorful abstracts and flowers speaks for the versatility of the painter and the sensitivity of the man. While best known for his glowing watercolors, Crockett has been working more recently in oils and acrylics as well.

Eastern Shore Hunting and Fine Decoys
Holden Creek Gun Club is located on Virginia's Eastern Shore, in one of the last undeveloped and most historic areas on the East Coast. The club is on a farm that has been in Grayson's family for over a hundred years. Grayson and Dawn live in the large house on the property, where his grandparents and great grandparents lived before him.
At Holden Creek we are less formal than many hunt clubs. We treat our customers as we would our friends, because that is what most become. We can't promise limits, but we do guarantee to do everything to ensure your hunt is a pleasant and memorable one.
Hunting At Holden Creek
We have about 1500 acres that we lease or own. It includes farm fields and
woodlands, but the majority is marsh. We also hunt public waters and marsh. This
year we will have approximately 30 blinds in a wide range of habitats to choose
from: farm fields, a flooded impoundment, a farm pond, salt marsh ponds, creek
and point blinds on both the Chesapeake Bay and the ocean side of the Eastern
Shore. One of our boats is equipped with an Avery blind and we have portable
blinds to take advantage of any opportunities which might present themselves.
Much of our hunting is done over handmade wood or cork decoys. Brant, Canada goose, snow geese, swan, puddle duck, diver, and sea duck rigs are all part of our equipment. We try to remain as flexible as possible and consider our hunter's preferences, the abundance of different species at the time and weather conditions when making the final decision on where we will hunt. Although we specialize in waterfowl, we also hunt dove, deer, and turkey and by next year may begin taking some fishing parties for trout, croaker, and striped bass. The Eastern Shore has a large, healthy deer herd and our turkey population is steadily growing. Our guides are expert deer and turkey hunters and many of our upland areas provide excellent habitat. We strive to maintain the atmosphere of the area's famous hunting clubs of the late 19th and 20th century. We hope you can step back in time with us and experience the same sights and sounds of the unspoiled marsh that your grandfather knew - the same sights and sounds that sportsmen have experienced for over a hundred and fifty years on the Chesapeake Bay.
Fishing At Holden Creek
When angling with Holden Creek Gun Club, you will have the opportunity to fish
the hallowed waters of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, including the Chesapeake
Bay and Seaside. These fishing grounds are steeped in history and tradition and
remain relatively undeveloped. We specialize in tailoring custom guide services
oriented around fly and light tackle fishing, targeting various species in these
idyllic surroundings. The environs encompassing the Eastern Shore are some of
the most beautiful in the mid-Atlantic region and the Shore's fishing is one of
its best kept secrets.
Decoys
Grayson's decoys are carved in the classic decoy style of the past. He carves
using traditional tools and methods, making his decoys of hollowed pine or
cedar. Many of his brant, geese, and heron have heads carved from limbs, which
give them wonderful natural curves. All of Grayson's birds are painted with
oils, which age to a warm patina.

Modern Designs Revealed in Wood
Artists Steve and Donna Lawson live and work on Virginias lower Eastern Shore where the Chesapeake Bay meets the mighty Atlantic ocean.
In their latest project, salvaged hardwood is transformed into a series of designs which embody the farming and fishing culture of this maritime environment .
The starting point of this work is the simple Arc. We see it in rainbows and the shoreline's curling waves, in the Earth's orbit, the rising Moon and the setting Sun.
“Working with a line as simple and perfect as the arc, the designs seemed to resolve themselves in a fluid and natural way,” says Steve.

Art That Works for a Living
The course of my art is guided, in part, by the notion that the planet is a living entity, and my work is a small offering to the spirit that holds sway over life’s adventure.
The discovery of tile as an artistic medium awakened a strong desire to distill my observations and experiences in clay.

Handmade Windsor Chairs and Art Gallery
As you travel Route 13 through Cape Charles, you will come across a tidy Victorian home that was built in 1907 and today serves as a portal to another time and place.
Windsor House is a restored Victorian era home where you’ll find antiques, local folk and fine art. It also houses the workshop where Kurt and Sally Lewin handcraft authentic Windsor chairs.
Windsor House, owned and operated by Kurt and Sally Lewin, is a respite from modern hustle and bustle as well as home to the Lewins’ workshop, where they painstakingly handcraft exquisite Windsor style chairs using the same tools and techniques as European craftsmen did in the 1700s.
The Lewins were farmers in New York State prior to starting their new venture, which began as a hobby after they were unable to locate quality Windsor chairs for their own home. They learned how to create these masterpieces of form and function from a craftsman in Canada and soon were beleaguered with requests from neighbors and friends for these chairs.
The farming Lewins left their old career and home behind them and opened the Windsor House in 2003. Visitors to Windsor House can watch the Lewins at work and ask questions about the techniques and tools used to create these lovely chairs.
In addition to creating Windsor style chairs, the Lewins offer a selection of blanket chests, cupboards and farm tables, as well as primitive antiques and local artwork by area potters, painters and wood carvers.
For handcrafted furnishings that will become tomorrow’s heirloom treasures, visit Windsor House
