Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission

Overview of Northampton County Tourism Infrastructure Process

Each year, Northampton County funds the regional Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission with the proceeds of a supplemental 3% Transient Occupancy Tax. Of that 3%, the Northampton County Board of Supervisors has specified that 25% must be spent on tourism-infrastructure projects within the county.

A Northampton County Tourism Infrastructure Committee has been established and tasked with determining how to spend these funds to improve and develop the county’s tourism infrastructure. The Committee is composed of the Northampton County appointees to the Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Committee and the County Administrator. All funded projects must complement and advance the Tourism Strategy adopted by the Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission.

To be considered for the third round of tourism-infrastructure funds, applicants must complete an application and return it to the Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission no later than November 16, 2010.

Applicants may be requested to provide additional information or make a presentation. Grants will be awarded to selected projects by December 16, 2010.

Upon request, all recipients must be able to provide to the Infrastructure Committee an itemized list of expenditures and receipts associated with the funding received.
Successful applicants will be required to submit a final report to the Infrastructure Committee upon completion of the funded project, as well as follow-up performance metrics.
